Curculionidae from Belgium

Updated: February 15th, 2010

Over the past twenty years the classification of Curculionoidea was repeatedly shocked, entire families have been constructed or exploded, many genera have emerged or have been absorbed into other genera, some new species were added, others have changed their genus, or the International Code of Zoological validated or invalidated an appointment taxa.

In the evolutionary concept of classification (Zarazaga et al.) Tree Curculionoidea differs significantly from the phylogenetic model based on molecular markers (Legalov et al.), Which itself differs from the numerical taxonomy (Sokal et al. ).
Until these three schools to reach an agreement and that the experts discuss on a rational taxonomy and the purpose of classification of Curculionoidea, this site has followed the classical concept, based partly on the draft European wildlife, therefore we have not downgraded the families Apionidae and Nanophyidae subfamilies of Brentidae.

At the moment, no fauna of Curculionoidea of Belgium has been published, although Emile Derenne began drafting a catalog in the years 1968 - 1969, it remained in manuscript and was never published.

The presentation of the catalog has been extracted from a mixture of the fauna of France, the supplement of this fauna in Tempère & Péricart, fauna of Central Europe (FHL), the manuscript Derenne, as well as different faunas more distant or different jobs since then appeared in various magazines.

For a more easy to catalog, the alphabetical order was chosen to direct families, as subfamilies, tribes and genera.
Were deliberately excluded from this site, the varieties and subfamilies Scolytinae and Platypodinae, which are placed by specialists in the family Curculionidae (it is not inconceivable that one day they are incorporated to the site).

The species likely to be observed on our territory have been put in brackets for ease of reading.

In a spirit of mutual help that this site was born.It is far from perfect, and there are certainly errors or omissions, but it will be updated regularly.
